New Delhi: Citing the question of livelihood of lakhs of traders and other people those who are dependent upon fire crackers business, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has expressed deep regrets for order of Supreme Court allowing sale of only Green Crackers on this Diwali in Delhi NCR. The CAIT has appealed the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision in the wake of livelihood of large number of people and enforce bursting of green crackers from next year and having a sympathetic consideration, the traditional crackers may be allowed to be sold in Delhi NCR region.
CAIT Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal while sharing the concern of the apex Court for rising pollution in Delhi NCR said that the basic problem is that the Green Crackers is truly a new concept and so far not being manufactured in required quantity. There is as such no definition of green crackers and hence neither the seller nor the consumer knows what is called as green crackers. and therefore the green crackers are not available in the market and stocks of traditional crackers has been piled up in large quantity in Delhi NCR region. As per an estimate, fire crackers worth about Rs.500 crores are in lying as stocks in Delhi NCR. What will happen to such stock. is a big question and now in short time this stock can not be transferred to other States for sale due to many reasons and also the other States already have sufficient stocks for their requirement.
Mr. Khandelwal said that fire crackers is a seasonal business and lakhs of people earn their yearly livelihood by selling crackers in Diwali festive season. For such people there will be a starving situation. Having a humanitarian approach, a breathing time should be given by the apex Court to traders and others dependent upon this business and the green crackers should be enforced from next year so that the manufacturers will produce only green crackers and Delhi NCR will import only such crackers from the manufacturers of other States.
