Muradabad, October 14 — In a shocking case of alleged conspiracy, police arrested two people after uncovering a plot in which a woman, together with her second husband and other associates, allegedly arranged a firing on herself to falsely implicate her first husband in a criminal case, police said on Tuesday.
SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh held a press briefing at the Reserve Police Lines and said the case was registered at Moondhapande police station on a written complaint (tahrir) filed by one Rahana on October 13. The complaint alleged that the accused abused and fired at the complainant with intent to kill.
During the course of discreet investigation, police learned that the motive for the staged attack stemmed from old rape and molestation cases pending against two men — Yaseen (son of Chanda) and Habib (son of Bhura) — in which both had previously spent time in jail. The SP said the complainant in those earlier matters is Nasreen, who is now married to Afzal. Nasreen had earlier accused Habib of rape and molestation; Habib had been jailed in that matter.
Police allege that Afzal, together with his brother Nafees, Nafees’s friend Lalla, Israr and others from the village Birpur Variyar (also known as Kharg), hatched a plan to create an incident that would make it appear Yaseen and Habib had fired with murderous intent, thereby rekindling cases against them and sending them back to jail. The alleged plan involved Afzal taking his wife Nasreen by motorcycle along a route from Mudiya Malukpur to Shivpuri while the other conspirators waited at a prearranged spot to stage the firing and then inform police.
A search by the station team led to the arrest of Afzal and Israr, the SP said. During questioning, the arrested accused purportedly confessed to elements of the plot, according to police. Yaseen, Habib and an unknown person named in the FIR are listed as the victims/accused in the original complaint.
The investigation is ongoing and police said further arrests are possible as inquiries continue and more evidence is gathered.
