New Delhi: “Migraine, or the tension type headache or the cluster headache, is the most prevalent type of Primary Headaches and are associated with disturbance in the pain system of the brain that leads to a triggering of the brain circuit.
A typical migraine headache is a half head throbbing pain, and is associated with irritation from light, sound and smell and sometimes leading to vomiting and nausea. If these recur more than 4 times in a month or you are taking more than 4 painkillers in a month then one should see his/ her neurologist for an appropriate anti migraine therapy.
One should not take headaches lightly and maintain a ‘headache diary’ to monitor the headache patterns and discover what might be causing your headaches or making them worse. Adjust your lifestyle to avoid headache triggers such as stress, irregular and poor sleep, missing meals, certain foods and beverages and taking medications often.
Learn and use stress management skills effectively to de-stress yourself, for example, early in the morning or after a hard day’s work.”
