New Delhi: Every year, 31 May is observed as World No Tobacco Day. Committed to its academic endeavor and providing holistic development to its students, NSS cell, LLDIMS organized an oral health talk followed by an oral health checkup camp at Lingaya’s Lalita Devi Institute of Management and Sciences in association with the Indian Dental Association (IDA).
Talking about the severe health impacts of tobacco use, Dr. Kumar Ranjan, an Oral and Public Health Professional, said that tobacco consumption in India is a socio-cultural issue. Tracing its roots back 500 years and how it was brought by the Portuguese, today, there are an estimated 276 million tobacco users in India, which is an unprecedented public health challenge. Dr. Ranjan broadly bifurcated tobacco users in smoking and non-smoking categories and revealed that an estimated 37 million children aged 13-15 years consume tobacco, and the consumption of this product in any form kills up to half of its users who do not quit.
The economic impact of tobacco consumption in India is immense. Financial constraints impede the nation’s progress and place a heavy weight on the healthcare system. Dr. Meenakshi Chandana, President IDA SDM, congratulated Prof. (Dr.) Pranav Mishra for organizing an oral health checkup camp for the members of the LLDIMS family. Dr. Karan Tangi, Hon. Secretary IDA SDM, and Dr. Charu Aggarwal, Rep. to CDH IDA SDM along with their team members were also present. After the facilitation, the session witnessed question-answer round and the penal of doctors provided satisfactory answers to all the quarries. The event concluded with an oral health checkup of all the members. Prof. (Dr.) Pranav Mishra, Director LLDIMS, welcomed all the guests and highlighted the need and importance of regular heath check up and specially the oral health check up.
