Ghaziabad/Noida : Regional Transport Office, Ghaziabad has launched a special campaign to help vehicle owners and driving license holders to update their mobile numbers on its official records of driving license and registration certificate of vehicles for updating certain information flashed by RTO related with DL and or RC of the vehicle like expiry of fitness and or validity. Under this initiative, individuals whose mobile number has not submitted on the official records of RTO or it has been changed over the period, in view of old numbers or multiple numbers on the driving license and or registration certificate of vehicles. Such mobile numbers can now be updated by each individual either by logging into the official website “parivahan portal” and or by visiting the Regional Transport Office themselves.

On asking the reason for updating mobile numbers on the official records of RTO, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (Administration), Sri Manoj Kumar Singh, informed the News Editor of “A News of India”, “Let me explain the reason first. Earlier it was not necessary to submit mobile numbers on the records of RTO for driving license holders and or vehicle owners. Suppose DL holder and or vehicle owner was having his or her old mobile number on the records of RTO and or it is old number and the same has been changed over the period and due to that the old mobile numbers is not in use and or has been issued to a new customer, in that way if the RTO sends some message related with expiry of vehicle fitness and or expiry of driving license’s validity then the message is not received by its intending receiver. Further, the insurance company flashes a message about expiry of the insurance period and it is not received by the real vehicle owner. In this condition sending of messages goes waste and even insurance is not renewed as messages were not reached to its original owner instead it is sent to somebody else and the vehicle is on the roads without valid insurance. In that way the driver and finally the owner is liable for any claim whatsoever. In that way many people are unable to receive important information and updates from the transport department. To ensure smooth communication, it is mandatory that the correct mobile number remains linked with both the driving license and the vehicle registration certificate on the official records of RTO. People can easily update their mobile number on the RTO website by logging into it themselves and or alternatively, they can visit the regional transport office where it can also be updated within a few minutes. After the update of mobile numbers, vehicle owners and DL holders can receive updates from RTO on a regular basis as and when such messages require strict compliance.”

The ARTO Sri Singh describes all the issues with patience to this news editor of A News of India which seems his deepest concern for extending RTO services without any hitch and also people should not be penalised with lack of required obligations of DL holders and vehicle owners as per the Motor Vehicle Act 1989. It is the responsibility of DL holders and vehicle owners to obey statutory guidelines and follow all rules and regulations in this regard to save themselves from penalties and imprisonment or both in case of violation. The RTO office has been urging people to take advantage of this campaign and update their mobile numbers on the registration certificate of vehicles and driving license at the earliest, either online or in person at the regional transport office, Ghaziabad. This will finally facilitate the owners and DL holders with latest updates from RTO Office.
