Classical Singer Bhargavi Thakur performs in New York

Bhargavi Thakur, an internationally emerging Hindustani Classical vocalist from India performed at Brooklyn Baithak, New York, USA on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Bhargavi’s rendition in Raag Bageshri accompanied by Sai Raman on Tabla just enthralled the audience and they got mesmerized with her alaaps and gamak etc. This has been her first public performance outside Chicago where she lives and has been performing since last two years on various occasions at South Asian Music Association, Vivekanand Vendanta Society of Chicago, University of Chicago and a Bollywood Punk Bank – ‘Do The Needful’ and has made her mark amongst the South Asian community and audience of various race and ethnicities.

It is a matter of great pride that Bhargavi Thakur, originally hailing from Mithila, Bihar, growing up in Delhi, later studied in Delhi University and Ashoka University has made an indelible mark in her career of music in the US after she completed her Masters in Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 2022. She is working as an Research Associate at Alliance Chicago, a healthcare organization.

Her forte in classical music is Khayal Sangeet, learning since her age of 3 years and she now is learning Dhrupad from Dr Sumeet Anand from Darbhanga gharana.
