London/Dhaka/New Delhi: The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday found ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun guilty of crimes against humanity for their roles in the deadly crackdown during the July–August 2024 student uprising.

According to the tribunal’s verdict, the three leaders bore command responsibility for a wide range of atrocities — including killings, torture, enforced disappearances, and arson — carried out by security forces and ruling party activists. Prosecutors successfully argued that Hasina’s directives, which allegedly authorised the use of helicopters, drones, and lethal force, enabled the systematic and coordinated violence that unfolded during the unrest.
