In a significant breakthrough for Indian law-enforcement agencies, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday apprehended most-wanted gangster Anmol Bishnoi following his deportation from the United States. Anmol, the younger brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport under heavy security before being taken into NIA custody.

According to officials, Anmol will be produced before the Patiala House Court, where the agency is expected to seek his remand. He faces serious allegations in over 18 criminal cases, including orchestrating extortion rackets, facilitating weapon deliveries, and providing logistical support to gang members.

Anmol is also a prime accused in several high-profile cases, among them the Baba Siddiqui murder case, the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, and the firing incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence. Investigators describe him as the chief overseas handler of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, responsible for managing threats, extortion operations, and international communication through encrypted channels.

Sources revealed that Anmol fled India in April 2022 using a forged passport. His escape route allegedly included Nepal, Dubai, and Kenya, before he reached the United States. He is believed to have moved between the US and Canada during his time abroad. The breakthrough came when the US Department of Homeland Security detained him in California last year, holding him in custody until his deportation.

NIA officials say Anmol’s arrest marks a major step in dismantling the gang’s global network. His interrogation is expected to provide crucial insights into the syndicate’s international operations, financial channels, and associates.

Further details are awaited as the agency proceeds with its investigation.
