Bihar’s political landscape has once again entered a phase of heightened activity, with fresh signs of a major realignment emerging from within the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance). Saharsa MLA and Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) president I.P. Gupta has openly stated that he has received an offer from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and is willing to join—provided one key condition is met.

Gupta, whose remarks have intensified concerns for the already weakened Mahagathbandhan, said that he is ready to shift to the NDA if the Tanti–Tatwa community is included in the Scheduled Caste (SC) category. He emphasized that this decision can only be taken by the central government and added that if his demand is accepted, he will join the NDA without delay. According to Gupta, the Tanti–Tatwa population in Bihar ranges between 8 million and 10 million, yet the community has not received adequate representation.

NDA Entry Likely for IIP Chief

The IIP leader claimed that during the Assembly elections, his party transferred its entire vote bank to the Mahagathbandhan’s constituent parties. He believes the NDA is aware of this electoral influence, which is why he has now been given an invitation to join. Gupta reiterated that the Tanti community is economically and socially backward, making their inclusion in the SC category essential.

‘Mahagathbandhan Must Review Its Defeat’

Commenting on the heavy defeat faced by the Mahagathbandhan, Gupta said that its leaders must sit together and analyse where things went wrong. He stressed that the mandate delivered by the public must be understood seriously, and introspection is necessary.

Gupta Says He Will Seek Public Apology Before Joining NDA

Gupta also announced that if the NDA agrees to his condition, he will issue a public apology to Mahagathbandhan voters and its allied parties before formally joining the alliance. He assured that even after aligning with the NDA, he would continue to work for the welfare of the Tanti–Tatwa community and the voters of his constituency.

Potential Political Shift Ahead

Gupta’s statement has set the stage for what could become a significant political shift in Bihar in the coming days. While this development poses a renewed challenge for the Mahagathbandhan, it could turn into a strategic opportunity for the NDA.
