Uttar Pradesh: Varanasi police and the STF achieved a major success after a ₹1 lakh reward-bearing criminal was killed in an encounter. The incident took place on the Bariyasanpur Ring Road under the Chaubepur police station area, where the STF team confronted notorious contract killer Banarasi Yadav.
According to police sources, Banarasi Yadav was involved in the murder of criminal Kalnizer Mahendra Gautam in the Sarnath police station area, which was carried out after taking a contract. He was wanted in more than two dozen serious criminal cases and had been absconding for a long time.
During the operation, the accused opened fire on the STF team, following which the police retaliated. Banarasi Yadav was killed in the encounter. Two pistols and a large quantity of cartridges were recovered from the spot. Police officials said further investigation is underway and efforts are on to identify and trace other associates.
