In a strong message delivered at the Dubai Airshow, US Air Force pilot and leader of the American team, Major Taylor Fema Hiester, cancelled his scheduled performance to honour Wing Commander Namansh Syal, who lost his life in a recent crash.
Major Hiester said that while people often repeat the phrase “the show must go on,” they should remember that one day, after their passing, someone might say the same. He expressed deep disappointment that only moments after the tragic crash, the event continued as if nothing had happened.
The pilot revealed that it was difficult for him to believe how quickly everything returned to normal at the venue. “The commentator’s voice carried the same excitement, the crowd clapped just as loudly, but a tragedy had taken place,” he said.
He criticised the organisers for their decision to proceed with the show, calling it “shocking and insensitive.” According to him, cancelling the performance was the only respectful choice in light of the incident.
