Uttarakhand: A surprising and concerning issue related to solar energy installations has surfaced in Haldwani, as multiple complaints against solar vendors reached the office of Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat.

Residents alleged that vendors made ambitious promises during the installation of solar plants, claiming high levels of electricity generation and significant savings. However, once the systems became operational, the actual performance reportedly fell far short of those claims. Consumers stated that neither the expected electricity output was achieved nor did they receive the financial benefits that were initially promised.
Taking a serious view of the matter, Commissioner Rawat issued strict directions, urging consumers to thoroughly verify all documents related to their solar installations. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the installed systems meet the promised standards and generate electricity as per specifications.
He also warned that any discrepancies or irregularities found during verification would lead to action against the concerned vendors. The commissioner further advised people planning to install solar systems to carefully check technical details, including capacity (kilowatts) and expected power generation, before proceeding.
The issue raises a critical question—whether there is a larger scam unfolding under the guise of solar energy promotion, or if detailed investigations will reveal isolated cases of misrepresentation.
For now, the administration has called for awareness and caution among consumers, signaling that accountability will be enforced if wrongdoing is confirmed.
