Barabanki: 10 people died on Monday after consuming spurious liquor in Ramnagar area of Barabanki district Uttar Pradesh. Including four of a family lost their lives in this tragic incident. Several others got ill after drinking the liquor, all they have been admitted in the Barabanki district hospital. Reports say that many of them are in critical condition.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry in this matter. Taking serious note of the incident Chief Minister has directed senior officials to take stern action against all those found guilty. 10 Officials have been suspended so far. The police said that these people purchased liquor from a local shop here in Ramnagar. Owner of this shop has been identified as  Ranvir Singh and the liquor shop has reportedly been sealed.

The Excise Minister said it was a “lapse” on the part of the local officials that spurious liquor was sold at a licensed shop. “Somewhere it is a lapse of our officials and staff because there is a standing order that stock-taking in every shop must be checked,”  he said.

Earlier this year, the menace of spurious liquor had claimed 38 lives in Saharanpur, nine lives in Kushinagar and nine lives in Kanpur. In 2018, nine people had died after consuming adulterated alcohol in Barabanki district
