Lucknow / Ghazipur: Ghazipur’s MP MLA court on Saturday sentenced Mafia Mukhtar Ansari to ten years and fine of five lakh and Afzal Ansari to 4 years and fined one lakh.

Both these Ansari brothers were sentenced in almost 15 years old case of Gangster Act. Afzal Ansari’s Lok Sabha membership has also gone away after being sentenced to 4 years by the court. He was an MP from BSP.

Earlier, the hearing of this case was to be held on April 15, but due to the judge being on leave on that day, it was fixed for April 29.

It is worth mentioning that in Ghazipur in the year 2005, seven people, including the then BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai, were killed in Basaniya Chatti of Muhammadabad police station. In this case Afzal Ansari and Mukhtar Ansari were booked under the Gangster Act in 2007. Since then Afzal Ansari was out on bail.

Due to effective lobbying by the Yogi government, Mukhtar Ansari has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh, while his MP brother Afzal Ansari has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh in the years-old gangster case.

Mafia Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas Ansari is in jail in a money laundering case. Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afsha Ansari, younger son Umar Ansari are also implicated in many cases and are currently absconding, while Mukhtar’s daughter-in-law Nikhat Ansari is also in jail.
