New Delhi: Having managed to survive while fighting continuously, the life of Bharti Airtel has been very challenging, to say the least, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairperson of Bharti Enterprises said.
With one round of telecom reforms initiated and more to follow, Airtel hopes that the country’s largest telecom service provider that the Government of India will follow up with some more sectoral regulations soon.
In an exclusive interview with Business Today’s Global Business Editor Udayan Mukherjee to be aired on the Business Today Show, Sunil Bharti Mittal, revealed that the cycles have been such in our industry that one has to manoeuvre in the surroundings, the markets and technology. For Bharti Airtel, it has been a great effort of the team to be able to pull together each time in the face of adversities.
Bharti Enterprises is among India’s first-generation corporations having interests in Telecom, Space, Insurance, Real Estate, Hospitality and Food. Bharti has joint ventures with several global leaders: SingTel, SoftBank, AXA, Del Monte, the UK Government, amongst others. Bharti Airtel, the flagship company of Bharti Enterprises, is a global telecommunications company with operations in 20 countries across South Asia and Africa. The company ranks amongst the top three mobile operators globally and covers a population of over two billion. Airtel is India’s largest integrated telecom provider and the second largest mobile operator in Africa. At the end of March 2021, Airtel had over 470 mn customers across its operations.
Mittal pointed out that nothing demonstrates the decisiveness of the Government than the telecom package. The Founder and Chairperson of Bharti Enterprises highlighted that he was glad of where Airtel is today – much stronger, much sharper in focus towards the customers and a reasonably healthy balance sheet.
