New Delhi / London : Francesca Orsini, one of the world’s leading scholars of the Hindi language, was reportedly turned back from Delhi airport despite holding a valid visa. It is being said that due to her past violation of visa conditions, she was denied entry and deported.

Orsini, a noted scholar of Hindi and Professor Emerita at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, was deported on Monday soon after arriving from Hong Kong, even though she held a valid five-year e-visa granted by the Government of India.

PTI quoted unnamed sources in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs as saying that Orsini has been on a ‘blacklist’ since March 2025 for previous violations of visa conditions.

“Francesca Orsini was on a tourist visa, but she had been violating visa conditions,” the source said.
