Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: In a major development in the murder case of a young man, Mohit Sharma, from the Crossing Republik area of Ghaziabad, police on Friday arrested one of the key accused, identified as Gaurav, following an encounter.
According to the police, Gaurav was taken to the Katha Dumping Yard area to recover the weapon allegedly used in the murder. During the recovery operation, the accused reportedly pulled out a country-made pistol that had been hidden at the spot and opened fire on the police team in an attempt to escape.
The police retaliated in self-defence, injuring Gaurav in the leg. He was overpowered, taken into custody, and later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The murder of Mohit Sharma had sparked widespread public outrage. Investigators believe the victim was allegedly lured out of his home on the pretext of attending a birthday party before being murdered.
Following the incident, Mohit’s family members and local residents staged a protest on National Highway-9 (NH-9) on Thursday, blocking traffic and demanding strict action against the accused. Protesters also called for the accused to be dealt with in a police encounter.
Police officials said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case. Search operations are continuing, and authorities expressed confidence that the other accused will be arrested soon.
The investigation into the motive behind the murder and the roles of all those involved is ongoing. Police have assured that the case will be pursued thoroughly and that all those responsible will be brought to justice.
