New Delhi, June 19: The Telegram ban in India will continue till June 22 after the Delhi High Court upheld the Centre’s temporary restriction on the messaging platform. The government had imposed the ban citing security and examination-related concerns. The court refused to interfere with the order, allowing the restriction to remain in force until the specified date.
Court Supports Government Order
During the hearing, Telegram challenged the government’s decision and sought relief from the court. However, the Delhi High Court ruled that the temporary restriction could continue and maintained the government’s order.
The Centre told the court that the measure was necessary for a limited period and was taken in the public interest. The court accepted the government’s arguments and declined to stay the order.
Ban to Continue Till June 22
As per the court’s decision, Telegram will remain temporarily unavailable until June 22. The restriction is expected to be reviewed after the specified period.
The case has drawn attention because Telegram is widely used for communication, file sharing and group discussions across India. However, the court noted that the restriction is temporary in nature.
