New Delhi, 8 March 2022:
To commemorate the International Women’s Day, Guru Nanak Public School and VOYCE (Vision and Opportunities for Youth & Community Empowerment) today organised a talk on ‘Women: Gateway to Freedom’ by Harinder Singh, Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI), USA.
On the occasion, an art gallery – Guru Nanak Sahib: 1-Ness to 1 Identity was also launched. Depicting the life and times of Guru Nanak Sahib, the gallery presents an opportunity to experience and engage with his message of Ik-Oankar, 1-Ness.
In the spirit of 1-Ness, Asees, a unique centre for children with disabilities, was also inaugurated under the aegis of Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, West Punjabi Bagh.
Speaking on the occasion, Harinder Singh, a widely respected educator and thinker who is deeply in love with 1Force, the Oneness that radiates in all said, ”Guru Nanak Sahib continues to transform innumerable lives, and the world needs to hear this extraordinary and inspiring story of the ‘global-wisdom’, the world-prophet, the lover of 1-Ness.”
“The new exhibition at the Guru Nanak Public School showcases that story of transformation,” he added.
Harinder Singh also highlighted the concept of complete equality in the Sikh culture, as envisioned in the Guru Granth Sahib and created by the Ten Nanaks.
Sharing her thoughts, Anika Singh, Social Artist & Founder of VOYCE said that Guru Nanak was a strong advocate for gender equality and raised his voice against discrimination against women.
In her address, Mrs Reema Punj, the Principal of Guru Nanak Public School said, “Together with VOYCE, we dream of empowering and inspiring communities for a positive change – a change that we aspire to inculcate in our students, in the parents and in the communities around to promote women’s sense of self-worth, the ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.”
Jasleen Kaur Chadha, Founder Trustee WSCC, Tanya Rawal, Tarandeep Mehndi and other Ladies from Delhi Social Circle were present at the event.
The exhibited panels at the gallery were first featured at a unique exhibition on the times and life of Guru Nanak Sahib, at the National Museum, New Delhi in February 2020. A collaboration of SikhRI and VOYCE, the exhibition was enthusiastically supported by Guru Nanak Public School, among other partners. The panels, donated by VOYCE, have been curated into five galleries by the Guru Nanak Public School (details attached).
